2012 Opening Address
Author, Futurist & Expert on the new world of work
Dr Graeme Codrington
Dr Graeme Codrington is an expert on the new world of work. For over ten years, he has worked with some of the world's most recognisable brands, helping them to understand the forces that are shaping their industries and gain tomorrow's competitive advantage today. His insights are based on global research – he has five degrees including a DBA and Masters in Sociology, three best selling books published by Penguin, and is a sought after guest lecturer at the world's top business schools. Yet, his presentation style is readily accessible, using multimedia, humour and a solid dose of common sense to drive his powerful messages home.

2012 After Dinner Speaker
Former SAS Member and Author
Chris Ryan
Chris Ryan joined the 22nd SAS, the regular regiment, in 1984 and completed three tours whose operations and exercises took him all over the world.

He also worked extensively on the counter-terrorist field serving as an assaulter, sniper and finally Sniper Team Commander on the Special Projects team.

He made a miraculous solo escape travelling the 300km (200 miles) from Iraq to Syria on foot with no food and little water. This remarkable feat of determination was triggered when the SAS mission that he was on was compromised. Since leaving the SAS, he has written a number of best selling novels, is a military consultant to a computer games designer and co-devised and consulted on ITV1’s military action drama ‘Ultimate Force’. In 2005 Chris presented ‘How not to Die’ for Sky and was also the military consultant to Codemasters stealth-based first-person computer game – IGI2: Covert Strike

Jim advises teams and individuals in some of the UK’s leading companies; Jim is MD of the Taming Tigers Group.

Jim’s entertaining and practical speeches and workshops give his audiences a new set of possibilities and responsibilities, change their ideas about what they can achieve and send them out excited about making a difference. The modern battlefield is a terrifying environment, where enemy action adds danger and complexity to the simplest of tasks; mortars land in dining areas, resupply convoys are ambushed, surgeons operate from tents. How do officers plan complex operations when they are themselves scared and exhausted, and what inspires young soldiers to risk their lives in pursuit of higher objectives? Do you have this level of loyalty in your own organisation? Would you like to? In this presentation former Gurkha Officer and Sandhurst leadership instructor Neil Jurd explains how the army succeeds in hostile environments, and drawing on his experience as Head of Logistics with British Sugar, explains how battlefield procedures can be applied in the workplace to improve morale and increase output.
